Logline: A “Shark Tank” bustles with activity, and bristles with frenetic excitement. Fresh meat is being thrown to the circling predators and the cunning successful ones will eat tonight. Their booty will be disguised as polished, four-wheeled motor gems waiting for you and me to come fetch. If we could see the war that preceded our purchase, we would be terrified and dazzled! Let’s witness the melee.  Let the auction begin.

The Treatment
Car Lots, New and Used Car Lots

A taped weekly program showing people from all walks of life as they navigate the mine fields known “car lots” looking for that one automotive gem, for as next to nothing as they can possibly find. And, they hope to find that one-in-a-million salesman with whom they can immediately bond, and who will realize the true value of the car they are trading in, or even better yet, give them a spectacular deal beyond their dreams. Yeah Right……… Forget It!

The show will follow buyers in various cities; St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York as well as cities in several other states. Each state has laws and regulations governing the sale of used vehicles, licensing, issuing of temp tags, sales tax collections, etc., and it is our goal to entertain yet enlighten people on what to expect from the time they walk onto the car lot, until they drive off in their new purchase.

The program will follow these buyers through the entire process from the minute introductions are made until the buyer is ready to registers their “new” acquisition with their local DMV.
We will follow the process from the Dealer’s perspective as well, The Pitch, the Sale,  the Trade-in, how it is evaluated for trade-in purposes, how the dealer restores the vehicle for resale, how trade-in really work, etc.

Exposed, will be the shameful tactics franchised (new car) dealers are using to charge as much as $2,000 more than actual value for their used cars by using a simple term "certified" and why their assertions are not true.

It will also show the true inside workings of the new and used car industry. It will detail how certain scams are perpetrated on the unwary public, and how to avoid these scams, which questions to ask, and answers to expect, and how to pursue remedies when we have legitimate complaints. Besides entertaining, and sometimes humorous, this program will entertain the viewer as well as educate the consumer. It will be an eye opener to even the most supposedly savvy car buyers. The program will show how one can save from hundreds to thousands of dollars on their next vehicle purchase.

While the demographic will primarily skew to younger males, women will like it as well because it will empower them with knowledge to negotiate their next auto purchase, especially if they have a trade-in, and all while smiling, being pleasant and totally keeping their cool. Families will also be featured buying minivans, SUVs and station wagons.

We will also show how trade-ins really work. Practically no one knows how trade-ins really work or how the numbers shake out. This program will show the viewer how to tilt the process in their favor every time with a very simple process.

The program will peer into the various aspects and departments of a used car lot; the used car inventory, test-drives, negotiations, hard sell, soft sell, hard close, soft close, financing, insurance, warranties and explain what they are and how they all work. How to tell a good warranty from a rip job, what is covered, what is not and how to check out warranty companies.

The program will center around a nucleus of dealer lots, their sales personnel and staffs (similar to The Greatest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, Lobster Wars and/or After the Catch), who will initially be selected through a prescreening interview/audition process in the various cities chosen.

Each episode will feature several different car lots and new cars dealers from that core group and we will follow the buyers from the time they drive onto the lot until they drive off, in their new purchase, or “No sale”. If no sale, we will find out why. We will conduct exit interviews either way, sale or no sale.

Shown will be sales rep’s reaction to various questions; from confrontational, to benign, to questions as simple as requesting a CarFax on a particular vehicle, or quoting a value from Edmunds or KBB (Kelly Blue Book), NADA and how these question/answer session play out in a sale or no sale.

Additionally revealed, will be insider secrets about the business that the average public has always been kept in the dark about, trade-ins and how do they work, what you really get for your used car (a huge revelation) from both the new car and used car dealers (they are completely different) and many more used car trade-in myths.

Other topics covered will be: How and where car dealers really make their profits on sold cars. How F & I (finance and insurance) and Extended Warranties are the new profit centers in a sold car transaction, not on the profit of the sale of the unit itself. Why there is infinitely more profit in used cars than new ones. What a “Dealer Holdback” is. Why it is more prestigious to sell new cars but more lucrative to sell used ones.

The Treatment
Dealers Only, Auto Auctions

A taped weekly program showing new and used car dealers at various Dealer-only live auto auctions around the country, as well as online simulcast internet buyers. The typical auction has more fast-paced action, intrigue and suspense than a Las Vegas Casino. A typical auction can have as many as thirty lanes in which a car is sold every fifteen to thirty seconds. Thousands of vehicles worth millions of dollars are sold in only a few hours. This happens hundreds of times every week across the US.

The program will follow and look over the shoulders of selected dealers at live, “Dealers Only” auto auctions and show how they sell, buy and trade their vehicles. It will also show the true inside workings of the new and used car industry. It will detail how certain scams are perpetrated on the unwary public, and how to avoid these scams, which questions to ask and answers to expect, and how to pursue remedies when we have legitimate complaints. Besides entertaining, and sometimes humorous, this program will entertain the viewer as well as educate the consumer. It will be riveting!

While the demographic will be primarily young males, women will like it as well because it will empower them with knowledge to negotiate their next auto purchase, especially if they have a trade-in. We will also show how trade-ins really work. Practically no one knows how trade-ins really work or how the numbers shake out. This program will show the viewer how to tilt them in your favor every time with a very simple process.

The program will also peek into the various departments of an auction: Sales, Detail and Body Shop, Auction Arbitration Dept., Auction Lot Office, Security, Authentication, Dealer Pass Registration, Fleet Sales, Floor Plans, Auto Auction Check In, Sale Slot Assignments, PSI (Post Sale Inspections) etc.. It will show Open (private and for registered dealers only) and Closed (Franchised Dealer Only Sales) Sales and explain what they are and how they work.

The program will center around a nucleus of dealers, their sales personnel and staffs (similar to The Greatest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, Lobster Wars and/or After the Catch), who will initially be selected through a prescreening interview/audition process and/or by spontaneous visits to local area new car / used car dealerships and lots) to observe them under normal and spontaneous selling conditions.

Each episode will feature several different dealers from that core group and will follow them from the time they begin selecting their vehicles for the coming week, their bidding process (together with phantom bids) at the auction (a very hectic, fast paced event), paying for their purchases (via check, floor plans, bank lines of credit, check, cash, etc), preparation for the front line of the dealership, interaction with potential buyers, repairs, delivery and service after the sale.

Dealer’s Only, Auto Auctions: The Treatment

This program will show how new and used car dealers prepare for auctions: Their strategy, how they attempt to outbid competitors, their ruse’s with each other, how they determine their retail selling price, their due diligence or lack of it, their use of CarFax, AutoCheck reports, KBB, Consumer Reports, etc. The program will also show how to check for those unethical dealers who neutralize (turn off) CEL’s (Check Engine Lights), on vehicles they bring to sell at auction prior to or even at auctions.

Additionally revealed, will be insider secrets about the business that the average public has always been kept in the dark about; trade-ins and how do they work, what you really get for your used car (a huge revelation) from both the new car and used car dealers (they are completely different) and many more used car trade-in myths, secrets and scams.
